Why do younger people have so little respect for Baby Boomers when we are the ones who taught you everything?

My Boomer Tips

you know about drugs, sex and music?

Our generation invented rock and roll, taught you how to smoke pot and delivered you from the grip of Puritanical attitudes regarding sex.

And we had the presence of mind to invent Social Security and Medicare so you wouldn't have to let us live with you.

You would be an awfully dull lot without us.

Oh my….there are too many reasons to list here. Speaking as a Gen X’er, it gets old hearing about nothing but Boomers. How many specials on Woodstock do we really need?

Every politician since the day I was born was elected by the Boomers. The Boomers think about nobody else except for Boomers. They were handed the world and destroyed it. They took down the banking system. They immortalized immorality and have a complete and utter lack of ethics. They think that they can do no wrong and their kids can do no wrong. I can’t begin to tell you the number of times while very appropriately correcting my child, a Boomer tells me that I need to foster his individality. True, but respect for authority and responsibility has its place too. That was something that the boomers lacked.

Not to mention the whole SS/Medicare thing. They spent the normal budget plus borrowed huge sums to finance programs that they wanted (Remember, Boomers elected every stinkin’ politician since the day I was born). Now they are throwing themselves a pity party saying that "those politicians" stole their money. Noooooo….they wasted their money and now they want their kids and grandkids to pick up the tab. It’s typical…they take collective bragging rigts for things that do not belong to them and refuse to take responsibility

Uh, actually it was the generation prior to Baby Boomers that created SS and Medicare.

We don’t hate you personally. However, it is true that, with so many baby boomers retiring, the national debt will skyrocket once more.

What’s the difference between me paying for you to live away directly and indirectly through the government? Thanks for saddling me with debt because you don’t feel like paying for it. I’m so grateful that social support mechanisms are going to collapse because of your generation (and because you guys can’t get anything done without yelling complete bs at each other in Congress).

    Besides, I don’t do drugs.

Thanks for the music though. That was pretty cool.

You baby boomers weren’t even born when Social Security started and weren’t old enough to vote when Medicare started. You do have the sex, drugs and r&r part right, tho.

The pot and rock music are much appreciated. But some of the cheesey 80′s music was awful. I suppose it was the result of switching from pot to cocaine once you hit your 30′s.

When we boomers were children we also had little respect for those old people who had no idea what was going on. Now that we have had a chance to wear both sets of shoes, we can understand the ignorance of youth and forgive it because we were much they same. Most will grow out of it in time.

PS: We paid our dues to be able to retire. It is not our fault the incompetent government wasted the money they promised to put away. What would you have us do? Mass suicide, maybe? I’ll gladly drop out of the system if the government returns my investment into it, with interest of course.

It’s just what happens through generations.
We all thought we knew what the hell was going on back in our early teen years myself.

They are like obama they are the party of you owe me.

I guess the pictures of you baby boomers in your hey day burning the flag and spitting on soldiers did you guys no justice. man guess you didn’t realize calling our nations heroes baby killers would have this type of effect 45 years later.

Although the baby boomers are responsible for many of our perks today. They are also the source of the me first attitude, the destroying of the it takes a village and help thy neighbor mentality. In short, the fall of the social, economic and moral fiber of our country is the result of the babby boomers actions.

  12. RayHere

Baby boomers were a privileged class they came after the great depression after the war fought on two fronts to destroy our way of life during a time when America was the undisputed super power Their upward mobility was unprecedented in American history many went to far sex drugs anti American-ism so don’t blow your horn to loud as some might hear it an look into it

  13. Chewy Ivan 2

On the whole, the Baby Boomers have been irresponsible and selfish. You invented Social Security and Medicare because you didn’t have the foresight to provide for yourselves and needed a clever way to hide the fact that you need to burden the rest of the country with the costs of your care.

If the Baby Boomers did so much, then why is our lot still awfully dull?

Your generation lost Kennedy, and decided that instead of getting anything worthwhile done ever again after that, you should just spend your every waking moment trying to find ways to make people feel more comfortable and happier with what they have.

Basically, before you were old enough to have a say in how the world worked, we won a world war, landed on the moon, invented information technology and nuclear energy (not to mention nuclear deterrence), and cured polio.

Then you showed up. No amount of feel-good pills is going to make up for that.

Unfortunately, there were many Baby Boomers who decided that discipline was being mean to their little darlings. Now we are living with the results. Undisciplined little rug rats were bad enough. Now they are grown with their own undisciplined kids and grandkids.

If you’re referring to those of us from Generation X, then I’ll tell you why. Many of our Baby Boomer parents were too busy expressing themselves and pursuing their careers to bother with raising their children, and left us to pretty much raise ourselves. The latchkey kids, as we’re called, would leave an empty house to go to school in the morning, and return to an empty house at night. Can’t be too hard on you though. You gave us a healthy distrust of authority figures, and taught us self reliance.

OK, first of all, Social Security and Medicare were thanks to earlier generations, not the boomers.

As for the sex, drugs, and music….well, I do very much like the music. And all that stuff against racism and sexism was good. But I’m not sure about the other stuff. Sexual promiscuity and drug use have hardly been a great boon to American society, nor has the self-centered, irresponsible attitudes that the boomers spawned. Growing up, I can’t tell you how many of my friends and acquaintances suffered because of the negligent antics of their boomer parents.

OK, so there was all the peace and love and all that, but in the 80s, with the youthful idealism gone, all that was left was the selfishness and irresponsibility.

My WW2-generation grandparents drank and told off-color jokes and listened to jazz and generally seemed to know how to have fun, but they were extremely responsible and hardworking and honest. Looking back at them, I see a lot that has been missing in later generations.
