Why do you think the generations that followed the baby boomers feel or felt less hurried to grow up?

My Boomer Tips

This is the best way I can explain this. Most of the baby boomers who were hippies and lived that life only did for a short period. Around the time of having kids they realized the corperate world and stability were actually good things. However, today, I've noticed with adults in their 30's and 40's have their kids and are still rockers as far as music goes and even go as far to listen to what their kids listen to. Also, parents with kids and teens are still getting pierced and tattooed. This is something our parents who were born in the 50's and 60's only did before they settled down and had a family. Why do you think people even with kids today don't fully settle down? Has settling down gained a new definition? My parents musical interest changed somewhat too. I guess what it all boils down to is that people today don't feel the pressure of settling like their parents did as early or to change as drastically, I should say. Also, the 30's and 40's age group still have a lot of the same points of view they had in their early 20's. Could baby boomers raising grand children also have something to do with this?

I have noticed this phenomenon myself. It seems like today’s 40 is yesterday’s 25 or 30. In fact I have a nephew who is 41 and doesn’t look any different than he did when he was 20. It’s amazing. I think he has a picture in his attic that ages instead of him. My Father’s generation probably said the same about us. My Dad seemed so old at 35. Now my Sons and daughter are between 35 and 40 and act like teenagers. One is very mature, but the others would still be in college if they could get away with it. I think a lot of it has to do with the kind of work one does. Some jobs are rugged and require sober attention to detail or someone’s going to get hurt. Working in mines, auto plants, on oil rigs, in corporate america come to mind. I have a daughter-in-law who is a lawyer. She’s young, beautiful, and one of the most mature serious minded persons I have ever known. I think the thing that determines whether members of a generation mature or not depends on the amount of responsibility they have to shoulder. We boomers raised our kids according to Dr. Spock’s permissive teachings and consequently they grew up undisciplined and aimless. I have one son and daughter in law in their late 30s and early 40s that are still smoking weed. I have no idea where it’s all going to end.

We were raised children were to be seen and not heard..we overcompensated by treating them equal, letting them in on most family business, discuss things openly. which came back to bite us on the butt! and we will be there for all their needs. some just dont stop, some manipulate them so they wont leave.
