My Boomer Tips

I've been searching for information regarding the baby boomers generation. Everything I find is about today in age, but this is not what I am looking for. Mainly I am researching the technological developments and racial diversity during this time period, which I believe goes from 1945-1965. Links to websites where I can find this information or other databases would be very helpful, I have already checked wikipedia but had no luck finding what I was looking for.

Thanks in advance

The Boomer generation had the good fortune to grow up in a post-war period seen as a “high” time economically for the country. Furthermore, their parents (the G.I. generation ), having struggled and sacrificed in their own lives through both the war and the Great Depression were insistent that their children would not have to sacrifice. Rather, they lavished so much financial freedom on them that they became what has come to be thought of as the “Immediate Gratification generation.” Today, immediate gratification appears to be strongly related to the financial woes of the whole country!

To their credit, the Boomers (with the exception of the most radical activist groups) rarely included violence in their demonstrations even though they had been assaulted by the police in several instances – first at the Democratic convention in Chicago and then at Kent State College. When police fired at and killed several students at Kent State College that was the high water mark and the intensity of the rebellion increased all over the country. It was certainly a new experience for parents of our background to get the word that our children had been “busted” (jailed) for their part in the demonstrations!
