Our generation invented rock and roll, taught you how to smoke pot and delivered you from the grip of Puritanical attitudes regarding sex.
And we had the presence of mind to invent Social Security and Medicare so you wouldn't have to let us live with you.
You would be an awfully dull lot without us.

Will the majority start taking their benefits or wait until they get older? what do you think will happen to the economy?
I hear news of baby boomers tapping into social security and job positions opening up, because of them retiring. Sounds like catastrophe because of less working people. Has it occurred to anyone there is a whole population outside the USA eager to work, and correspondingly to pay taxes? Future not that grim if considered in that light.
They had the statistics for many years as to number of people who would need the social security they paid into their whole lives. Why is it that when this point in time has arrived that jobs for generation X and those younger are now not there to pay the tax base needed to fulfill government obligations to the boomers?
Is the unemployment rate expected to drop drastically when as the baby boomers start to retire? My economics professor mentioned this as a positive outcome despite the social security crisis.
According to many, social security will be running out soon and their blaming baby boomers. Anyone know any reasons why?
Seriously, what have the baby boomers given the country? WW2 generation defeated Imperialism and Nazism. They made America the most powerful country in human history.
The baby boomers however are going to leave a country in ruins. + trillion in national debt. Jobs are gone. We are now in 3 wars that appear to have no end in sight. Social Security and Medicare will be bankrupt in 2037... These people seem to embrace communism and socialism since the 1960s.
The baby boomers will leave this country in financial ruin....
It seems the budgetary debacles taking place in many states right now (not least of all California) are just a shadow of things to come once Baby Boomers curtail their contributions to local and state tax bases and begin drawing on Social Security and Medicare. The public school systems are getting worse, not better, because the recession has led to budgetary cuts. The million or more students who drop out every year are a million low-wage/no-wage earners who won’t contribute to the narrowing tax base in the future (and we’ve lost any opportunity we had to improve the schools before the Baby Boomers take retirement). Once they do begin to retire, aren’t those of us left in the workforce and fortunate enough to have a college degree (or unfortunate enough, depending on how you look at it) going to end up paying Scandinavian-variety taxes just to keep the system from imploding?
