I'll ask it again, why does Gen X only get 15 years as compared to Baby Boomers get 18 years?

My Boomer Tips

Everyone (or mostly everyone) knows that a generation is 20 years (or about that. Not 10, and not 15.

Most everyone also knows that the baby boomers were born between 1946 and 1964. Folks, this is a good 18 years. That is a generation.

What in the world is wrong with the people that decided that the Gen Xer's end at 1980?

Who thought of this? Was it a group of people that thought "Oh yeah, we should cut down this generation to only 15 years". (so that it SEEMS like less people are in this generation???)

How can they think that a generation is only 15 years, when most people know that a generation is 20 years?

Why are Gen Xer's left out of everthing?

Where do they get these idea's from?

Is anyone else feel left out and upset over this or is it just me?
Torch, you are just a troll. You did not answer my question, did you? Nope.
Look at this from Wikipedia.org:

Generation Y (sometimes referred to as "Millennials (AKA Class of 2000)'"[1] or "Echo Boomers"[2], and occasionally jokingly "Generation Why?") refers to the cohort of individuals born between 1982 and 1994.[3]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Y

Does not seem right to give Gen Y only a silly 12 year span for a "generation"-since again, a generation is usually 20 years. I guess we can expect to see all these 12 year olds having babies then, huh?

Isn't this the purpose for a "generation". To mark when a generation has "children"?
I just found out that the US Census Bureau is the one that decided the baby boomer generation is from 1946-1964.

According to a sorce on Wikipedia, this generation ends in 1961. There is also a "Jones Generation" and a "MTV generation".

I'm in Generation Y

Do you think young Americans today (Generation Y) are much more like Baby Boomers than Generation X?

My Boomer Tips

Let's assume that:

Baby Boomers = 45-59
Generation X = 30-44
Generation Y = 18-29

I was looking at some unrelated polling data from DailyKos here:

http://www.dailykos.com/statepoll/2009/6/4/US/308

Then I noticed something kinda peculiar...

The favorability ratings between Generation Y and the Baby Boomers of both Sonia Sotomayor and Rush Limbaugh are eerily identical, but the Generation X sandwiched between these two groups are more like older Americans.

Why do you think this is?
Could it be that 18-29 year-olds and 45-59 year-olds are more socially liberal/libertarian than the 30-44 year-olds?

If so, why is this the case?

I always assumed that the youngest generation would be most progressive, and would steadily creep more and more conservative.

But this doesn't seem to be the clear-cut case. Why so?

Silent Generation, GI Generation, Baby Boomers, Gen X, Gen Y, Gen Z?

My Boomer Tips

What generation are you? I picked x-y for me because I want to be a part of as many groups as I can. I would pick them all if I could. The more the merrier.
Are generations real or just used as a marketing tool? Who is the person in charge that says- yes this is your generation and there is no if ands or butts? Is there such a person? If so, why isn't there a defined end / start date for some generations liike X and Y? Who's idea was it to make generations?
I thought generations were every 20 years. Meaning: If i was born in 1948 my generation would be 1938 to 1958?
Do generations really share that much in common or does it depend on how you were raised?
Here is what I put together, it may not be 100% right but it's just my list like there are 1000 others. I felt bad if I only had one list of generations because who's to say that a person fits in one or the other. Like someone born in 1983 might not want to be part of Y they might feel as though they belong to X more because of there upbrinding etc.

Best Generation Born before 1900
Gi Generation 1901-1926
Silent Generation 1927-1945
Baby Boomers1945-1954
Baby Boomers 1945-1963
Generation X 1964-1975
Generation X 1976-1982
Generation X 1964-1976
Generation X 1963-1983
Generation Y 1974-1994 (first defenied by AdAge Magazine)
Generation Y 1977-1997
Generation Y 1975-1995
Generation Y 1976-2001
Generation Y 1983-1994
Mtv Generation 1975-1981
Mtv Generation 1975-1986
XY Cusp 1976-1986
Generation Z 1981-2001
Generation Z 1983-2003
Generation Z 1994-2014
Generation Z 1995-2015
Generation Z 1991-2012

Yes Generations XYZ are messed up but there are over 1,000 different
start/end dates for those so I picked all.

This is a question for Generation X or Baby Boomers and Generation Y.?

My Boomer Tips

I heard that Generation Y, the Generation coming up after X outnumbers the Baby Boomer Generation. But minus the deaths mostly from the Baby Boomer Generation that are mounting, no offense, "combined" do we outnumber Generation Y still? How many are in the Baby Boomer and Generation X category? Does anyone know the statistics? Thank you. Also I have nothing against Generation Y being in the Generation X category myself. I think I can relate to them pretty well. The oldest are in their late 20s right? (also, I have nothing against Baby Boomers. The ones growing up in the Disco era were pretty cool although the ones participating in Woodstock or who sang peace songs, some including the youngest members of the Silent Generation, left me scratching my head) Although I honestly feel outnumbered being in between the Baby Boomer and Generation Y category if we were to be included separately. So I guess that is the point of my question. :) Thank you everyone.

Have baby boomers screwed up the economy for generation y?

My Boomer Tips

I'm referring to the economy when it comes to jobs. It seems as though baby boomers are taking up all of the jobs, because the main they care about is whether or not they'll be financially secure when they retire. Also, employers tend to hire people with more experience, so us people born during the generation y era usually aren't even given a chance. It's really hard for a lot of us to land jobs.

Do "baby boomers" defying their age or are they oblivious?

Baby boomers are now becoming the new senior citizen. As a gen x'er, I get it, you baby boomers are the richest in history and probably the following generation won't be as wealthy, a la de da, etc, etc. But now you are entering your twlight years are you prepared as you should be for retirement and your mortality? Its great that you're so active, I'm just concern you're going to fall and hurt yourself.
For the second reply.. sorry thats generation Y the eco boomers. You missed that one my grumpy old friend. Now would the next nice baby boomer that sees the humor please reply.
