Please…John Birchers were no main stream conservative group and you know it….they were a nutty group. Jack Kennedy was a pragmatic and he didn’t trust liberals…Read any book on him. He very much didn’t want to be classified as a left winger. JFK would have govern more moderate to conservative in a second term. Even some of his aides have stated that…I’m currently at Harvard Kennedy School studying for a Public Policy degree. IJack Kennedy was no liberal in todays standard.

It’s great you’re studying at Harvard… I’m just a commoner who majored in poly sci at a state U .. & have studied the presidency most of my life. I SAID he governed as a pragmatist… do you need better reading comprehension skills? But he had a liberal vision at least in domestic social policies.

  3. marcostar57

And nobody knows what would have happened in a second-term… Republicans & conservatives opposed him on most issues. JFK would be NO conservative by today’s standard..either . You must be a conservative yourself & trying to mold him to your ideology.

  4. norr4636

You don’t have to be arrogant or rude….I’ve also studied the Presidency since I was a child. Why liberals like to insult thier political opponent? Just want to have an honest debate….Liberals back in the day were much stronger on Foriegn Policy. I’m a conservative democrat much like the cold warriors: Scoop Jackson, George Smathers, and Yes Jack Kennedy. Liberals of today is soooo weak on international affairs….that Scoop Jackson Deomocrats are Republicans.

I’m not trying to be arrogant but your saying you’re at Harvard seemed a bit haughty to me. — Anyhow it’s too bad that foreign policy is now such a partisan issue — as everything IS! They used to say politics ended at the ocean’s shore. Too me (neo)conservatives are weak — 9/11/01 on their watch.. disastrous war of aggression/choice.. in bed w/ the corporate “..industrial complex.. outsourcing the military, etc.. Jackson, Smathers, JFK, Ike would all be appalled! Best of luck at Harvard.

I agree…Mistakes were made but once there…you have to agree…we must win no matter what the cost. Terrorist atacked us….we didn’t attack them. Bush did many things wrong…..But his efforts were noble. Glad to have a new friend.! Good luck! thank you!

A president advising people to read a bill? Impossible!

  10. marinduren69

the best president of the 20th century
each and every speech each and every deed

  11. marinduren69

    this is it

    Hot!

Revisiting this speech again. This is the coolest speech, informal, off the cuff, wondeful delivery. From beginning to end (go to Part 2), it takes one back to the time when we had this outstanding and brilliant man as our President. He was amazing. A speed reader, he could read a book in a couple of hours, and 5 newspapers front to back in less than an hour, and absorb it all. And to top it all off, he said “no” to the generals. What a terrible loss.

We from Massachucetts are very proud of our “Liberal” Mr. Kennedy. His greatest power was that he wasn’t afraid to admit a mistake when he had made it and found it as a way to make progress by changing policy that was in error. He took responsibility for his administration and it’s errors-Can you see George Bush Jr. doing this? Kennedy brought people to the table, Bush, only those who could afford to pay a seat at the table!

  15. 0907oliv

And you have much to be proud of. Despite all of his flaws, he was extraordinary.

  16. mrboffo1

You don’t have to put the word “liberal” in quotes. JFK was a liberal any way you cut it and that’s a good thing.

  17. 5inthehole

I was being facisious when I put the quotes around liberal. I believe most liberal people try to be honest as possible and open minded. It’s the conservatives who say one thing, then do another. Only the highest bidder gets represented under a conservative represented america.

  18. xitongzou

You people from MA voted in a republican to take JFK’s old senate seat! I wonder how JFK would feel about that? Teddy is rolling in his grave…

  19. 5inthehole

    @xitongzou
It was Teddt seat not JFK’s- Teddy got it from his brother. It’s one of the biggest mistakes my Massachucetts has made in some time (we were the only state to vote against Nixon in 1972). The republicans scare tatics concerning health care reform threw off some more independently minded votes from the state. We can no longer afford the old health care system-10 years ago I paid $ 75mo. for health card now $365mo. Soon middle class will not be able to afford it.

  20. 5inthehole

“Will take the extraordinary step of not mearly reading the journals and the publications of the AMA (American Medical Association) because I do not recognize the bill when I hear those descriptions.” -JFK
Sounds alittle like what the republicans have been doing to the current health care bill. I wonder how many could tell you if they really read it or are just going along with their party or ripping it for the money they grab from lobbiest! Wake up Americans!

  21. dammichsmith

But ignorance = bliss… it said so on the TV! ;)

  22. CrankTheParty

    Awhh. <3

  23. lakotausa

It is highly ironic that the well meaning intentions of leaders like Kennedy to see people protected against sickness will be one of the leading causes of economic catastrophe for the United States. The explosive costs of Medicaid and Medicare entitlement programs (created after Kennedy) will now cause either the monetization of debt leading to a Dollar collapse and/or the bankruptcy of a great Nation. Deeply Sad.

  24. megarational

@lakotausa There are stock traders & hedge fund managers, who add nothing to the economy, just gamble, that make billions of dollars annually.
The top 1% of the rich own more of the nations total wealth than the bottom 95%.
Yet timid fools like you get all weak-kneeded at the thought of something so “radical” as ensuring that everyone has access to health care.
Oh, wait, it can’t be radical. Virtually every other advanced nation already accomplished it.

  25. Nkrumahist

I wouldn’t consider this man a liberal, it seems that he was moved to decisions by rationale, by reason, by the most logical-in-fact steps to good government. Its a disservice to call President Kennedy a liberal.
