My Boomer Tips

I would like to take ballet classes. I am 50 years old. Is this silly? Are there other 50+ ladies that take ballet? Would ballet be better to get in shape than yoga? Thanks!!

Not silly at all, its a brave thing your doing and I really commend you :) My Mum was 44 when she took up tap dancing!

You need to take an adults beginner class, they do exist you just need to check with all of your local dance studios. Before you pay any money for classes make sure that you have a look at the class and see if its the right one for you.

Yoga would be easier than Ballet. It requires less technique and there would be more people your age. But if Ballet is what you want to do then definitely do it!

    I hope this helps :)

If you want to do ballet, go for it!! Look around your area for ballet studios that offer classes for teens and adults. I taught a teen/adult class one semester and it was fun! One lady took it with her daughter.

Ballet is more aerobic than yoga, but they are both good for developing flexibility and stability. In my opinion ballet is more fun (no offense to yoga – I like it fine), but I’m majoring in it in college, so I’m biased.

I think ballet would be great for you. Congrats on wanting to stay active! Its not silly and would be fun. In my community, we have colleges and even some community centers that do adult dance classes so you may want to check into something like that in yours as well. Have fun!!

While yoga is great, my preference for exercise has always been dance related, but the key is to do what you are interested in.

Ballet is a wonderful way to get in shape!

Most ballet studios offer beginning adult classes. Just call around to studios in your community and find a teacher that you like.

I will be 50 this year. I was dancing about 4 years ago.

All the dance studios around us have great adult ballet classes

My range of movement really improved.
