How will America survive when the baby boomers leave? do americans have to produce more kids rapidly, you know like 6 per family? or maybe quit aborting 50 million children since 1970 (potential to fill up 2/3 of that gap). do we have to import more brains from india and china? would that be convient especially now that china is exporting spies to the US with ease, and the EU is also importing its own brains. Canada and australia are doing like the EU too.
oh an American highschoolers are now reading less and watching more MTV and spending more weekends at the mall.
also when it comes to maths, we cant even see china, and also Nigeria and poland just went past us.
The great USA is now 29th in science.
oh and em social security is running dry, so is healthcare.
however, i dont think socialized healthcare would be helpful to the economy.
Baby Boomers….RETIRING??!! Where!? I need to know b/c my dear husband who is now 42 has been waiting for 6 damn years to get a decent paying job he’s earned 3 degrees for. In his field (teaching), they seem to be holding onto their jobs into their 70′s. The antique shop I work for is staffed by folks that themselves are antiques!! I just got laid off last month so a 76 year-old woman who’s been "with the shop" since they opened could get her days (my hours!) back after she left to work another job!! i AM the youngest person there and I am at the tail end of the baby-boomers. So…if there are some old folks out there leaving their jobs, could you tell me where they are?? Me and my poor husband would really appreciate being able to pay OUR way through life.
Believe me, I think there is no shortage of folks who will be happy to have what jobs baby boomers retire from that aren’t outsourced to India and China. The middle class is shrinking–and NOT by volume. Quality of life is at an all time low these days for working Americans.
Discipline is inevitable. It either comes from within or without. So the USA will rise to the challenge, or fall under the influence of a more effective nation.
america will be just fine when the baby boomers retire. and americans don’t need to, and shouldn’t reproduce more rapidly. 6 kids per family? that’s a bit excessive.
Could be, but the USA did churn out Bill Gates and Steve Jobs and most recently M . Zuckerman, 23 year old CEO of Facebook. So our youth is stepping up just as they have in the past. As for baby boomers, the Wave Survey discovered that 60 % of boomers plan to do volunteer work after retirement. If so, they will not be a burden but will seen as assets . America will survive.
It does no good to have Americans produce more children of the same type as you describe. Its not quantity but better quality that is needed.
We’re already importing labour from other countries and I can see the US along with other big industrial countries doing more of it to make up for the shortage of labour.
Our education system is outdated. It needs to change to reflect the demands of today and the future.
Recently, I heard of a report that generation Y will be the first generation that won’t outlive their parents due to obesity and the health issues surrounding it. If that is the case, then we will really have a shorage of labour.
This is what happens when you let liberals take over a society and start preaching moral relativism….
