Why don’t you just treat him out to dinner and maybe even catch a movie. Tell him you love him and you’re proud of having him as your father. No point going for items.

Maybe you should get him a nice fishing trunk stocked with new fishing… things (everything he needs)

    give him a private nurse

he will have to wear a visible jacket at work and buying him fishing gear will not be right as he will have his own ideas on tackle so why don’t you go to a fishing tackle supplier he uses and buy him gift vouchers for that shop Dave

a day off from your work and tell him that you want to know what is his job by being with him even for a day… just be with him even for a day will really make a difference. you, your love and appreciation of who he is much more than this world could offer.

life is too short to be spent on things that really doesn’t matter…. enjoy the day with him… open talk leads to a deeper intimate relationship with your daddy. GOD bless!

Not knowing your dad or what type of fishing he likes, that is out. I fish with my husband and there are many different types of items for each type of fishing, like bass fishing, fly fishing, salt water vs. fresh water so that is out. From my own experience my dad at that age had most everything he needed so since i lived out of state i would sometime get a professional portrait taken and buy a nice frame and send it to him as we didn’t get to see eachother often. My dad was also a wine connisuer sort of and liked to gormet cook so i would try to get a rare bottle of wine or food for him to try. I also sent some of those wine and cheese or the sausage ,cheese and cracker gift packages. He also was a golf player and liked winter skiing so items useful for those hobbies were always good. He had a wild sence of humor too , so if i came across a plaque that was funny and pertained to him in some way, I’d pick that up. If he likes fishing, there is always that singing bass that you can often get in walmart in sporting goods as a prank gift.

I threw my dad a FU@K OFF! wicked 50th party where all his loved 1′s can come join him celebrate! I hired 4 cheap beach cabins all within a 10m radis next on a beach, had 2 buses leave from a pick up & drop off point so NO-ONE DROVE anywhere & just brought KEGS X3 (still wasn’t enough) & shit loads of BBQ things, the only things all my guests had to bring where toilettries, changes of clothes, FISHING RODS & TUCKLE BOX, blankets, tents (optional but essential) & themselves….on the invite NO KIDS AFTER 7pm. All up $NZ523.89. That is dads favourite fishing spot now he just turned 52…..

Give him a $200 gift certificate to a sporting goods store like Bass Pro Shops and let him pick what he wants.

Ask one of his workmates whether he can wear the Jacket or not, and also whether he has confided in them what he wants.
50 looks old to you but still feels young to him so ignore the eldery guy suggestions some clowns have been making.
